Mint

Mint is a very subtle shade. As a teen this was my wall colour. It was so fresh it made me think of the ocean. It is both pretty and mature and can be used as cute hint of colour in an all white room and is easily paired with pastel hues of peach and pink. I prefer to play it safe with this shade as it doesn't always stand up to bold colours. Check out this styling by Sarah Ellison for Real Living Magazine 2011 for some inspiration. There are lots of accessories in this shade on the market from cute clocks like the ones from My Little Empire for $69.95 to the scatter cushions of Adairs in Vintage washed Linen $59.95 (these feel amazing!!!).

Neon animal print

I like a tasteful splash of animal print and there are some pretty impressive examples on the market. Great as an edgy accent with neutrals or as part of an eclectic mash up of wild patterns. Some of my favourite print pieces are Evie Kemps Big Cat cushions, available of Superette for $99. Check out Evie's website for lots of amazing goodies. Can't get enough of the off the wall neon animal prints!

Sly lamps

The good old fashioned desk lamp has received a remake of late and its now larger than life. I'm a big fan of comically over sized furniture and this lamp from Domayne for $150 is awesome as it comes in copper.

Science

Beakers and test tubes can make for some pretty funky vases. Graphic anatomical and botanic prints, such as those produced by Leonardo De Vinci fit with this trend too. I like this sketch of a heart for $11 from Etsy. I also love these little amber vases and this flask and bunsen burner style essential oil burner from Mr Sparrow. For cheap conical flasks check out these from School House Electric for $19 you can pop cut flowers in these in a little cluster of beakers of varying sizes. I would feature these items with a fuss free back drop of charcoal and white with modern wooden accents in a scandinavian style. Dark wooden floors. Replica hans wegner Wishbone chairs.

Planters that are too cute to miss

Just because its cute, check out this little cactus egg for $25 from Pigeonhole Also check out this funky Uashmama washable bag from The Corner Store for $28.95. With a little pot inside these make for adorable planters.

Bunnies

As its easter and all I suppose it's only fair that I devote a little attention to the bunny trend. I've seen some real cuties pop up around the place and they are pretty quirky. I like the topiary style rabbits that are featured at Adairs. These little guys are a pretty cool addition to a funky wedding setting and are just at home in a trendy mod living space. Also loving these little white rabbits which bring me back to my childhood with their alice in wonderland style. Available for the kids and also for the adults for those of us that will never, really, grow up.

Kids rooms

Kids rooms can be expensive and hard to keep current with the little ones growing up so quickly! These kids rooms designed by my lovely sister use cute accessories at low cost to provide a bright and inviting setting! Bunting can be easily changed and you can get templates to make your own at spotlight! Kids feel special if you feature their name (it also helps with the all important spelling for those learning to write) and these little patch work letters look fantastic! Paper decorations are a perfect way to add a cheap accent to a room that can be changed and changed and changed again!

Watercolour

Wall paper is back baby! Watercolour is a stylish way to get wallpaper going in your house and it's like a mural on your wall. Bright colours are the go and you can get some amazing stuff from Scandinavian Wallpaper and Decor . They even have magnetic wallpaper! Im also a fan of watercolour cushions. In an all white classic setting these can make your living room look like a gallery with the cushions as the works of art. Check out these cushions by SuzieMcAdam

Lemon Yellow

Lemon yellow is popular right now and it's a very happy shade that suits multiple styles. It is an uplifting tone but needs some neutral to balance it out as it can be busy. I love the beautiful linen cushions available in this shade. I found this one from Alethias for $47.

Whimsy

Very pretty and shabby chic is the new whimsy trend hitting our stores. I have always been a fan of pastels and they will take centre stage with this trend. Think soft florals, gorgeous crystal chandeliers and cute decorate ornaments all on a backdrop of soft white. There are so many lovely wall papers to suit this trend and help you create a beautiful haven in your home. Along with this trend is a focus on birds and wood with lots of tree inspired decor. I love this cute little bird cade from Dani's Cottage for just $13 and this beautiful and whimsical chandelier from To Your Door for $69. Edgy Pink

Pink is a girly colour for the most part. However, I have recently been amazed by the use of pink shades like Dusk and Salmon as neutral, edgy and even masculine. I am in love with anything that pairs these shades of pink and charcoal and it's a sneaky way to add pink to a room without offending the man in your life. It was only on closer inspection that I realised that all the tiles in my family home were a muted shade of pink, my mothers favourite! Try the Adairs Home Republic vintage washed linen in pink for $229 (Queen) on sale or the amazing Kate and Kate Jagger throw from Urban Couture for $110.

Fruit and Tropics Inspo

We still have a bit of summerish weather coming our way and the best way to celebrate the warmer months is to mirror the same vibrancy in our decor. All things fruit inspired are popular right now and I love this trend for bringing happy pops of colour into our homes. I'm not going crazy and getting banana print curtains or anything but i'm partial to a couple of cherry or pineapple print cushions like these ones from Schatzibrown for $29.50 or these from Catandvee for $20 for a bit of fun. I even love the Kip and Co quilt cover because it reminds me of fruit tingles from $160 for a King size! The tropical trend is also a great way to add some excitement to a room. Navy

People are usually in love with colour or terrified of it. This year Navy blue is popular and I love the ease at which this saturated hue and others like it including purple can be used in the home. I think the rich navy tones add a warmth and intimacy to a living room and this can be achieved simply with a feature wall. I also love the idea of mid century modern sofas in luxurious navy velvet. Eames dining chairs mix up

I absolutely love the eames reproduction chairs. I have been looking for a while for some in western Australia and I stumbled across some great ones on JasonL $54. I would pair these awesome chairs with other quirky chairs around the dining table. I have seen some amazing ones at ikea for $95 that are transparent and would look stunning paired with the white eames chairs.

Inside out

In 2014 its time to blur the lines between indoor and out. There are many ways this can be done and they range from floor to ceiling glass panel windows to hanging wall gardens. These living walls don't have to cost the earth. The best plants are low light that can survive indoors. If you are brave they can even form a feature wall behind your sofa. Oh yeh trestle tables are not just for yard sales and swap meets anymore. Say hello to the most amazing stylish trestle tables around and add to your warehouse and industrial decor. Concrete

Concrete accents can be heavy and cost tonnes in postage. However there is an easier way to achieve the concrete accent trend. Check out Home Made Modern for a user friendly tutorial on how to make concrete lighting pendants for next to nothing. This tutorial helps you create pendants of different shapes. These look amazing hung over a kitchen bench!

Candy Skull- Dia de los Muertos

Day of the dead is a festival celebrated in central and southern Mexico. This festival has provided inspiration for lots of home decor and the colours and vibrancy of these add interesting detail to any home. I picked up this great cushion from Linen House for $34.95 (including insert) featuring the Candy skull. Also love this stunning wall decals by RespectPrinting. They are $15 and can be used and removed as desired. A far better option than painting on your walls especially in rentals.

Scandinavian

Scandinavian style is such a breath of fresh air. The designs are all about clean lines and beautiful details. Also loving RetroJan that features furniture on The Block Australia. I noticed this little fuss free side table and automatically began to visualise it in my bedroom. The Felix Scandinavian Side table is just  $249. This piece is timeless and will fit into any setting with its simple design.

Ropes

Ropes are a great way to add an earthy texture to a room. I love these tasselled garlands from The Family Love Tree for $99 each. These make great wall hangings and will be available soon online. I love the assortment of organic and natural pieces that the Family Love Tree offers.

This supplier ships worldwide and features sturdy rope to make sure your stunning lighting stands the test of time. These would look amazing as a stand along lighting fixture in the middle of a living room. I would also place these as a reading light against the wall of a bedroom or living space using a rustic wooden sconce as the rope would look great wrapped around the sconce.

These pretty macrame plant hangers are also a great way to bring the outside in. They are made by an Australian team of ladies in Byron Bay and make a pretty amazing gift. I have seen these hangers used in a variety of ways. They look lovely with little polished copper planters in them as well as with the featured glass bowl. What a great way to display freshly cut flowers, succulents or even fake plants that are a 'no fuss' option! These are very affordable at $29.95.
